Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, yesterday inaugurated a 10-man committee on distribution of relief materials to about 1.5 million Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, taking refuge at 23 camps in Maiduguri metropolis, Borno State.
Inaugurating the panel at Government House, Maiduguri, Aisha said, “The challenges of overcoming humanitarian crises of IDPs could only be addressed by “equitably and judicious” distribution of food and non-food relief materials to victims of Boko Haram settled in various camps.”
She said the IDPs in camps comprise mainly of women and their children, the responsibility of distributing these relief materials could best be carried out by the inaugurated women of integrity and trust.
The terms of reference of the panel, according to her, include taking stock of all donated materials and monitoring their distribution in various camps of Maiduguri, Bama and Biu.
She also appealed to wealthy individuals and corporate bodies within and outside the country to donate more relief materials, as the population of IDP camps continue to increase in Dikwa and Bama towns, because of the ongoing insurgency in Abadam and Mobbar councils of Borno State.
The wife of Governor Shettima, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, who heads the panel, acknowledged the commitment and determination of the Federal Government to end Boko Haram insurgency going by the achievements recorded by the military, security agencies and the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF.
Responding, Governor Shettima assured Aisha that all the relief materials will properly and judiciously be distributed to the targeted beneficiaries.
