A political analyst Mr Abiona Wahab Abiodun said yesterday that OSUN STATE can no longer continue to pay Unemployed Workers!!!. The State government has reached a level where all unapproved workers will no longer be tolerated. This was in a reaction to against those against the decision of the State government.
On Wednesday, eighty-two workers of Osun State College of Education,
Ila-Orangun, sacked by the management of the state-owned institution.
The development, Daily Sun gathered, was in line with government’s policy to restructure tertiary institutions in the state. It was also gathered that the affected workers were members of the non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the college. Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of the college, Segun Onifade, confirmed the development to newsmen in Osogbo. According to him, the sacked workers were contract staff.
Mr Abiona Wahab Abiodun said, "Many may claimed Some Workers were shown way out of Service, it was because many of them were not Properly Employed and for government didn't give Management of those Institutions approval to employ them but, they did to suit their Interests. Many of these Staffs are relative and families of many of the top Management, top civil servants etc...
"They were engaged to cause unnecessary burden for government, which government could no longer accept. The authentic workers needed government's attention at this time, but not UN-approved ones. This means when government needs and has ability to pay them they can call for normal employment. The Management of the Higher Institutions in the State of OSUN should not create burden for government any longer. Any undue and unauthorized employees should know he/She has not secured a job.
He advice, "Also, in the Labour law, there is nothing to like Contract Staff, one can imagine what the Management of these Schools are doing! This is violation of Labour Law and if government should take them up for creating burden which is not necessary for it, it is just. Let us abide by the law of the land so as to avoid creating undue hardship in our State. We all know Nigerian economy is at wood now, any attempt to create artificial Employment to increase the wage bill must bill avoided. OSUN adara o.
