Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has presented a budget proposal of N111.4bn for the 2016 fiscal year.
The amount falls short of the 2015 budget by more than N3.5bn, which stood at N115.2bn.
The budget is the first the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration is presenting since assuming power in May this year.
Governor Masari, who presented the budget on the floor of the House of Assembly yesterday, tagged the estimate ‘Restoration of Hope’ budget.
Masari said N38.4bn or 34 per cent of the budget would be spent on recurrent expenditure, while N74.7bn or 66 per cent is to be spent on capital expenditure.
He said the agriculture sector would gulp N5.5bn, while the education sector would take N22.7bn.
He said the reason is that the state administration wants to revive these sectors and restore them to their former glory.
He said 11,114 teachers would be recruited next year to teach in primary schools across the state.
The governor said additional 11,401 teachers that had retired would be re-absolved to boost teaching and learning in stateowned schools.
He however said the dwindling revenue from federal allocation would affect the budget, even as he assured that efforts would be made to improve the living condition of the people under the new budget.
On his part, the Speaker of the Assembly, Aliyu Maduru, said the state would need to look inwards for internally-generated revenue to meet the need of governance and development of infrastructure.
Maduru assured the state governor that he and other lawmakers would work to ensure speedy passage of the budget in the coming days and weeks
