ENUGU—The South-East leadership caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, lashed out on Chief Victor Umeh, Anambra Central senatorial district candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, describing his sole candidature bid for the seat as an effort in futility.
The ruling party at the centre regretted that Umeh, instead of embarking on campaigns to woo the electorate, has resorted to legal gymnastics to arm-tw ist the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, on the dangers of allowing APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to conduct fresh primaries or field new candidates for the fresh election.
In a statement by the APC South-East leadership caucus spokesperson, Mr. Osita Okechkwu, the party frowned at ”Umeh’s craving to be anointed as sole candidate to the Senate, though there is no provision for anointment or sole candidature to the Senate when APC is on the prowl.
“Umeh is suffering from the culture of hang-over emanating from series of anointments he inherited from APGA. For the records, he relies on his usual legal gymnastics in court. APGA indeed never adhered to the doctrine of internal democracy.
“Umeh was anointed the National Treasurer of APGA from where he became the National Chairman. This is his idea of democracy and the history of his meteoric rise. That’s why he is so scared stiff to contest election, as he was floored woefully in the last election by a woman in the only election he ever contested.
