Japan runs train, railway station for just one passenger

khaleejTimes
Japan Railways decided to close the station down three years ago, but found out that the train was the only option for a girl to go to school.

One train stops at Kami-Shirataki railway station every day, in the morning and evening. It's for a schoolgirl, who is the lone traveller from the station located in Japan's northern island of Hokkaido.

The Kami-Shirataki railway station gives an example of the government's care towards its citizens.

The Japan Railway decided to close down the station because of its remote location and lack of passengers. The freight service was also stopped three years ago. However, authorities found out that a high school student had been using the train service and that made them to rethink about their decision.

Now, the station is functioning just for the girl. Train has been rescheduled according to the girl's school timings and the station will be kept open until the girl leaves school in March this year.
